About

fairplay at the Vienna Institute for International Dialogue and Cooperation is the initiative for diversity and anti-discrimination in sports. The fairplay initiative was founded in 1997, as part of the European Year Against Racism. As an interface for mediation and networking activities, for emancipatory and participatory initiatives, fairplay functions as a point of contact and advice as well as a competence center in matters of (anti-)discrimination and diversity in sport.

Our thematic focus is on anti-discrimination and diversity, social inclusion, human rights and development, and prevention of extremism.

Mission Statement
We use sport to advocate for diversity, anti-discrimination, inclusion and human rights, as well as to preventively counter extremism. The goal is to create a solidary and sustainable sports culture free of any exclusion. We do campaigning and educational work, show positive strategies for clubs & initiatives and support marginalized groups in active and equal participation in sports.

The fairplay education platform is the digital learning and service platform of our initiative, where we present our extensive educational offering. We at the fairplay initiative have many years of experience in the field of education and accompany both children and young people as well as adults with our workshops and courses. Our offers to raise awareness in the field of discrimination (racism, homophobia, sexism), human rights and social inclusion and prevention of extremism in sports are used by schools, youth facilities, (sports) clubs, teachers, youth workers, etc.

Until now, these training courses have only taken place live. With our fairplay education platform, we can now also provide free digital formats. On the one hand, online courses on our areas of work can be found on this platform, and on the other hand, we provide further material that serves as a supplement to our live workshops. We hope you enjoy exploring what we have to offer!

The fairplay education platform is funded by the Digitalisierungsfonds Arbeit 4.0 of AK Wien and supported by the SPIN Refugees project as part of the European Commission’s Erasmus+ program. fairplay is supported by the Federal Ministry for Arts, Culture, the Civil Service and Sport and the Austrian Development Agency.
