WHAT & WHY
Even if open forms of discrimination on Europe’s sports fields have decreased in the last 10 years, racism, homophobia, sexism and right-wing extremism have not disappeared – neither in top-class nor in popular sport. This makes it more difficult for certain social groups to participate in sport and represents a major problem from a human rights perspective, because everyone has the right to participate while maintaining their*/her* integrity and dignity. In particular sexism and stereotypes against women are an issue in sport because of a still dominant masculine sport culture.
