EDU-PACT (Intercultural Education through Physical Activity, Coaching and Training) responds to the flow of migration to Europe as well as to the intercultural challenges currently faced by most countries in Europe.
The project aims to improve the quality of preparatory and in-service training and to raise the professional profile of sport-related teaching professions in order to prepare teachers and coaches for inclusive intercultural education in and through sport.
Although in most European countries physical education teachers* and coaches* work with culturally, ethnically and linguistically diverse groups, physical educators are not well prepared to take advantage of the opportunities presented by increasing diversity. Indeed, research shows that many physical education teachers* and coaches* have not received formal training in working with diverse groups and lack professional competencies in intercultural education. Furthermore, initial education and professional development do not provide physical education teachers* and coaches* with the knowledge, skills, competencies, or tools necessary to make the most of the opportunities presented by diverse and intercultural groups.
In response, this toolkit provides current and future physical education teachers* and coaches* with the opportunity to acquire the skills, knowledge, competencies, and tools needed to implement intercultural physical education instruction
