We are committed to a sports landscape that is open to all people regardless of gender and sexual identity.
The topic of sexual and gender diversity in sport is becoming increasingly important and affects many stakeholders. This is not only evident in the IOC’s call for international federations to consult on regulations that are inclusive and respect people’s dignity on the one hand, and that make sense and are comprehensible from a sporting perspective on the other. There are also more and more requests from athletes who are currently excluded from organized sport due to their gender identity. And all people have the right to participate in sport and to be protected from discrimination.
Implementing gender diversity in everyday sport poses challenges for clubs and associations, for which we want to try to find solutions together through dialog, sharing best practices, building knowledge and raising awareness.
About the working group
As part of the Sport for all Genders and Sexualities project, working groups for gender and sexual diversity in sport are being set up in five European countries with relevant stakeholders. They exchange information on the topic, build up knowledge on the topic through input and identify the needs of (organized) grassroots sport. Ultimately, the aim is to support sports organizations in finding inclusive solutions for gender and sexual diversity in their own organizations. So that together we can find practicable, sustainable and inclusive solutions and support for grassroots sport.
The Austrian working group has been meeting three times a year since February 2023. All interested sports organizations and initiatives working on the topic are cordially invited to become part of our working group!
