00.15 – 00.35: Club values
Creating an environment that promotes learning and prevents behavioral problems may start with selecting core values.
Exercise 4b2: determining 3-5 core values
The joint formulation of the core values that the sports association considers important.
What do you need?
– a space where people can walk around freely
– Core Value Cards (a core value on each card)
What should you do?
– Spread the core value cards on the floor in the room.
– Have the participants walk around and read all the values.
– Ask the participants to take their place at your sign at the most important core value for the club (What value does the club want to be identified with).
– The value most people have chosen will be hung.
– Ask the participants again to choose the most important value among the remaining values.
– Repeat until 3-5 values are chosen.
– Discuss the values with the participants. Is the group satisfied with the choice?
Trainer’s advice
– When a good mix of members influences the choice of club values, people from different backgrounds can relate to this.
– Sometimes a discussion about the core values of the club leads to the merging of one value into one other value that covers the load.
– Someone can make a good case for a value that has not been chosen. This can lead to a different choice within the group.
– The discussion about core values is in itself an interesting exercise.
