02.00 – 02.15 Introduction to the theme of norms and values
Understanding whether different people are equally attracted to the important values of the club
Exercise 2.7: Match or mismatch in values
What do you need?
– List of values and norms
What should you do?
– Provide everyone with a list of values
– 1. Ask everyone to choose three important values, which are highly valued by their own sports organisation / which are characteristic of their own sports organisation (answer honestly)
– Ask everyone to write these values on post-its or on strips of paper (one value per piece of paper)
– 2. Then ask everyone what value they think is important to someone with a migrant background and write them down in the same way. Perhaps it will help to keep in mind the earlier exercise on values and norms.
– Collect the sticky notes / strips of paper and moderate them on a board or flipchart
– Discuss the differences between the actual values within the sports organisation and the values that are important to the newcomers. Is there a mismatch or not? What could be improved?
Trainers advise
– Ask the participants to answer questions one honestly. Because of the theme of the meeting, people are quickly inclined to give desirable answers.
– Ask a few participants: what shows that the organisation considers the mentioned value important. You can use the difference between values and norms and ask: What behavior is linked to that value?
