01.30 – 01.45 Introduction to the theme Women and girls
Participants gain insight in advantages and disadvantages of change or no change, concerning inclusion of migrants and non-migrant women and girls

Exercise 2.5: Pros and Cons matrix

What do you need?
– Strips of paper
– Markers – Chalk or painter’s tape
– 2×2 strips of paper with ‘Pros’ and ‘Cons’ written on it
– 1×2 strips of paper with ‘Change’ and ‘Don’t Change’ written on it
Per matrix

What should you do?
– Participants start in the ‘Advantages of not changing’ box
– The trainer asks the participants: What are the advantages of not changing and not involving more (migrant) women and girls? (so keep the club as it currently is)
– Each mentioned advantage is written on a strip of paper and placed in the box
– The trainer will keep asking this question until the participants really can’t think of any more pros *
– Participants should be free to say anything, without fear.
– Then the participants move to the ‘Disadvantages of not changing’ box Repeat the blue steps
– Participants move to the ‘Disadvantages of change’ box and take the blue steps again
– Finally, participants are in the box ‘Benefits of change’ and go through the same steps
– Ask the participants to step out of the matrix. Question: “On the basis of the conversation and the strips of paper on the floor, would you or would you not want to work on the inclusion of (migrant) women and girls within your club?”

Trainers advise
– The order in which you go through the courses is important. You should always end with the benefits of change
– The trainer can also ask: “What would others see as an (dis)advantage, whenever people don’t feel free to talk about their own opinion
– The trainer can also have participants write individual answers on paper and moderate them in the course. In that case, a trainer can ask for an explanation and still ask the question whether there are more advantages or disadvantages to consider.
– The answers to the pros and cons are often more or less the same, but opposite, such as ‘the number of members will increase’ and ‘the number of members will decrease’.
