Exercise 3.8: Stepping stones
– An exciting energetic exercise in which the participants end up with both feet on the (final) stepping stones and share their personal knowledge, insights and learning moments with the group. The path on the stepping stones forces the student to tell a personal story about what has been learned to the group.
– The participants check to what extent their learning wishes have been fulfilled in the training and what they have learned.
What do you need?
– Learning wishes from the first meeting.
– Stepping stones.
What should you do?
– Have the participants sit in a semi-circle arrangement.
– Lay out a path with stepping stones.
– Each participant takes turns walking down the path until he / she reaches two end stepping stones at the end. There the participant gives his / her presentation. – – This “stepping stone path” is located such that the end is right in front of the group. Make sure the end is not too close to the group, as that is too threatening to the participant.
– Lay out a long path, so that the participant in the way to the end stepping stones is sufficiently relaxed and realizes that it must be a serious, personal presentation.
– Let everyone walk slowly. Each participant has about 2 minutes. Use a stopwatch or hourglass.
– The trainer responds briefly to each presentation with questions such as: Which learning wishes have been fulfilled? What did you learn? And what are you going to do with it from today?
Trainers advice
– Participants often find it exciting to stand on the stepping stones.
– Make sure everyone listens to each other and that all participants get the attention they deserve.
