Timeline with events (when were women allowed to …)

00.20 – 00.35: Timeline with events

Exercise 4a2: When were women allowed to …..
– Awareness raising on the history of womens sport and discrimination of women in sport
– Getting an impression on the long way women had to go and the struggles they had for inclusion
– Understanding that women sport is not “just a few steps behind”, and the inequality of women is not something “natural” – but a product of discrimination, exclusion and male dominance

What do you need?
– cards with different events (see template -> these milestones can be adapted/expanded with respect to local context and interest) – yellow cards for group one, green for group two, red for traine
– A timeline on the floor with at least the following dates: 1800 – 1850 – 1900 – 1950 – 2000 – 2021/today

What should you do?
– Come together in two smaller groups
– In front of each group their cards are lying on the floor
– Participants are asked to put the cards on the correct order / assigned to a specific date on the timeline -> they discuss within the groups why they think, this event is fitting to the chosen date
– In the end all participants come together and see the results – differences and similarities between the groups
– The trainer dissolves the exercise with the exact dates and puts the red cards there
– Discussion!
