Values (sport and life)

00.15 – 00.35: “What are the important values to you – sport and life?” (section 2)
Understand and define racism and discrimination

What do you need?
– Envelopes with various value statements (Respect, Responsibility, Equity, Equality, Impartiality, Transparency, Honesty, Trust)
– Open space where people can be sat in a semicircle
– Flipchart and paper
– Slides used in this section: 5 – 6

What should you do?
– Ask group to think about two important values they hold dearly in two domains. One in their daily life & one in their sport club/organisation.
– People say their name, their club, and then feedback their thoughts on each value in each domain of their life (sport club and daily life) and why it is important.
– Collect the feedback on a flipchart if available or write them down.
– When everyone is done with feedback, go round and give each person an envelope with a single value in it.
– Ask each person to look privately in the envelop without showing the content to anyone.

– Ask the group to stand and move freely around the room, and when asked to do so to pair up with the person nearest to them.
– Ask each person to introduce themselves to each other, decide who will be number 1 and who will be number 2.
– After this, each person in a pair exchanges envelopes with each other without looking in the envelop – each person now turns back-to-back and privately looks inside the envelop.
– Number one goes first and tries to describe the statement without at any point saying the statement (e.g. “this is about how you treat other people” etc etc).

Trainers advice
– Interactive warm up exercise designed to achieved two key outcomes:

* And to understand how these values operate practically in sport on a day-to-day basis
