Reflect on what is racism and discrimination to you? How is it manifested (behaviours and attitudes?)
What you need?
– Flipchart, paper and pens
– Open space where people can be sat in a semicircle in a large group and can move into smaller groups
– Slides 14 – 17
What should you do?
– Slide 14: Ask group what racism/discrimination is to them? And how does it happen, and it happens to people because of? Put people into small groups to discuss these questions
– Collect the feedback on a flipchart if available or write them down and categorise these into behaviours, attitudes, and beliefs
– Slide 15-17: How racism happens? Click slide so only the question appears, ask group to think of ways racism happens to people, take feedback and reveal the various categories
– Reflect on the categories and what groups because of what characteristics are impacted by racism (skin colour, religion/culture, nationality/colour of skin)
